Rangers have made an offer to sign Davide Ancelotti from Real Madrid as their new manager.

It looks like the Light Blues may not wait until the takeover led by Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe is finalised to name a permanent replacement for Philippe Clement.

The hunt for a new manager appears to have gathered pace in recent days, with Rangers said to be prepared to make a final decision even before the takeover goes through.

While several candidates, including Steven Gerrard, have been linked with the hotseat at Ibrox, Ancelotti has quickly emerged as the favourite for the job.

Ancelotti has offer from Rangers

Scottish media have claimed that Rangers are still in the early stages of the process of appointing a new manager, although Spanish sources maintain that Ancelotti is a favourite for the job.

In fact, the Italian tactician already has a ‘significant’ offer from the Premiership heavweights, according to ElDesmarque.

The news outlet reported via their website on Monday (12 May) that Ancelotti is tempted by Rangers’ interest.

However, the Gers are not the only side interested in acquiring the Real Madrid assistant manager’s services, with Como also making an offer.

Como have identified the 35-year-old as a potential replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who is being eyed as a candidate to replace Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

Ancelotti’s last four jobs as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti, though, is in no rush to make a decision regarding his future, as he is poised to link with the Brazil national team when his father, Carlo Ancelotti, takes charge as their head coach later this month.

Therefore, June could be a decisive period in determining the young coach’s future.

Ancelotti has zero experience as a first-team manager, but has gained popularity for his tactical acumen, especially in set-pieces.

Ancelotti could move to Ibrox

While Ancelotti’s lack of experience as a manager would be a concern, it is worth noting that he is not entirely new to British football.

He notably served as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti during his spell as the Everton boss between 2019 and 2021.

At Rangers, Ancelotti would be able to test himself in a demanding environment, while also being able to compete in European competitions.

Therefore, it might be too early to rule out the youngster being a hit under the 49ers Enterprises at Ibrox.
