Rumour Mongering: Real Madrid Lead Race to Sign Liverpool Target Huijsen

The consensus is that Bournemouth’s 20-year-old Dutch born Spanish international Dean Huijsen is fated to depart his current club this summer, with the standout youngster’s £50M release clause rumoured to be attracting plenty of attention.

The player, though, has made it clear before that his end goal is to play for Real Madrid—and in light of that Madrid have certainly been in the mix on the rumour mongering front. The other two most often linked clubs have been Chelsea and Liverpool.

At times it can seem as though each of the three are presented as his likeliest landing spot at least once a day. Sometimes that seems to change by the hour. Today is no different, with early reports casting Liverpool as frontrunners and late ones saying Madrid are set to beat Chelsea to signing him.

Along the way Arsenal had their name added to the mix and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté and Arsenal’s William Saliba were presented as the top alternatives for Madrid. Somewhere in that mess of speculation there’s at least one solid through line.

Namely that Huijsen’s agent appears to be actively working to ensure that whole fated to depart his current club this summer stuff comes to pass. Given the player’s talents and clear upside, it does seem more likely that not that at least some of the big clubs being linked are genuinely interested.

What might be worth asking, though, is which are genuine and which are being floated in order to spur some other (or others) into action. It also might be worth asking about signing a player who has made it clear he would see your club as a stepping stone.

It wouldn’t be odd for a Spanish international to dream of playing for Madrid, but to so publicly court a move there at such a young age and when you likely wouldn’t be a nailed on starter does raise an eyebrow.

All told, it makes for a looming transfer saga that could quickly grow tiresome. Hopefully, then, it will manage to resolve itself one way or the other and sooner rather than later.
