Man Utd are in the market for a talented centre forward

Ipswich Town talisman Liam Delap has reportedly expressed a desire to join Manchester United despite interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

That’s according to a report from talkSPORT which claims the 22-year-old is ‘leaning’ towards a move to Old Trafford this summer after suffering relegation with Ipswich Town earlier this season.

Manchester World understands Delap is the club’s preferred striker target ahead of the summer window although other names such as Moise Kean and Victor Osimhen are also being considered.

Goals have been a problem for United in recent seasons particularly under Ruben Amorim, with the team failing to score in 10 of their 25 league games under the Portuguese coach.

The club are currently winless in seven games, their joint most of the Premier League era, and are desperately searching for an antidote to their goalscoring woes.

Man Utd lead charge for Liam Delap

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is said to be interested in making the move to Old Trafford this summer after an excellent breakout campaign at Portman Road. The former Manchester City forward has found the net 12 times in the Premier League for the newly promoted side after completing a £20m move to Suffolk last summer.

At 22-years-of-age, Delap is still very raw and learning his trade, but has proven he can be a nightmare for defenders at this level due to his aerial ability, physical strength, hold up play and his clinical finishing in the final third. He’s been a standout performer for a Tractor Boys team that has lacked creativity throughout the season and could easily be on more goals this term if he played in a team with greater creativity.

Of the 344 shots United have had under Amorim in the league, only 107 have been on target, while they have only converted 30 of them which makes them the second worst performers in relation to XG behind Crystal Palace - a figure the Red Devils will hope can be improved with Delap in the team.

The young forward initially had a release clause of around £40m heading into the summer, but after Ipswich’s relegation it has now been automatically reduced to £30m, making him potentially a huge coup for the Old Trafford outfit.

Troy Deeney urges Liam Delap to choose Man Utd

Liam Delap is expected to be one of the most sought after strikers in English football following Ipswich’s relegation.

Many teams in the division are in need of a goalscorer to boost their chances of success, and the likes of Newcastle United, Chelsea and Everton have all been credited with interest in signing Delap, either as the main man or as a strong option from the bench.

Speaking on the situation, ex-Watford forward Troy Deeney told talkSPORT that Delap should prioritise regular first team football and claims United would be the best option.

He explained that first team opportunities will enhance the youngster’s hopes of playing in the upcoming World Cup in 2026. Deeney said: "He has to play [to get into England squad] right? "So his next step would be, if I was advising him, would be that with Man United, it's nailed on. If he went to Man United, he'd start every week. He'd instantly make them better."

Delap has played 12 times for England’s Under-21 side but is still waiting for his senior debut.
