Liverpool in talks to sign Bundesliga star

Premier League champions Liverpool face Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday in their penultimate match of the campaign.

The Reds tied up the title with a resounding 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in late April, but have since been beaten by Chelsea and held to a 2-2 draw by Arsenal.

Arne Slot will therefore be keen to see his side return to winning ways against the Seagulls, who have aspirations of possibly qualifying for the Europa Conference League next term.

In the meantime, it has emerged that Liverpool are interested in a Bundesliga star.

According to TBR Football, the Reds have been in talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong since January.

The 24-year-old wing-back joined Leverkusen from Scottish champions Celtic in 2021 and has since played an important role for the German side.

In total he has made 190 appearances across all competitions, and he played a crucial role for Xabi Alonso’s side as they won the Bundesliga title for the first time in the club’s history last season.

Frimpong has also scored 30 goals and provided 44 assists in that time, making him one of the most efficient attacking full-backs in Europe.

Now, though, the Dutchman’s impressive displays have attracted interest from elsewhere.

The report claims that Liverpool are interested in Frimpong as they look to bolster Slot’s squad in the wake of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impending departure.

The Englishman will leave Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and the report claims that those in charge of the club are worried about the injury record of fellow right-back Conor Bradley.

Liverpool could therefore opt to pay Frimpong’s release clause of £30 million, the report claims, as they look to source a replacement for Alexander-Arnold.
