Katy Perry has been bounced out of Ball Arena this week as the Denver Nuggets battle the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Western Conference Semifinals.
The pop star’s Thursday, May 15, Lifetimes Tour concert was double-booked with the Nuggets’ vs. Thunder Game 6 — the third of the Nuggets’ home games in the series. Until Tuesday afternoon, Tickemaster still had been selling tickets for both events despite their competing bookings.
Promoter Live Nation on Tuesday afternoon updated the situation by saying Perry’s show has been postponed to Thursday, July 10, at Ball Arena. All previously purchased tickets will be valid for the new date. (Note: This story has been updated to reflect the Live Nation statement.)
The Perry concert, which was announced in late January, was supposed to start at 7 p.m. The NBA game, which doesn’t yet have a scheduled time, typically supersedes that, according to promoters’ contracts. In this case, the promoter is Live Nation, which annually books multiple large concerts at the home of the Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche.
Perry would be the second pop star to face this fate during this year’s Nuggets playoff run. An April 29 Kylie Minogue concert at Ball Arena was also chased off by a game between the Nuggets and L.A. Clippers. The show would have been the Australian pop star’s first-ever Denver concert.
A publicist for Ball Arena did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
