Brewers bats go silent again;4 May shutouts highlights slump

Beyond the shutouts, the Brewers’ offensive struggles are further reflected in their rankings across key statistical categories. In May, Milwaukee ranks dead last in batting average (.177), on-base percentage (.248), slugging percentage (.276), and total hits (66). They’ve also scored just 25 runs this month, the second-fewest in the league, while striking out 99 times, the third-highest total. It’s a troubling combination that underscores just how cold the bats have gone.

Not playing with a ton of confidence

After the Brewers most recent shutout loss, manager Pat Murphy told Adam McCalvy at MLB.com “We’re not playing with a ton of confidence. We have a bunch of guys just not at their best right now.

Despite this statement, Murphy still likes this team and believes in his players. Murphy told Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “Guys, look. I’m going to make a funny statement that you guys might laugh at me about. I like this team. I don’t think we’re super far away.”

Murphy’s confidence suggests the Brewers aren’t hitting the panic button just yet, but they do need to turn things around quickly as they are now three games below .500. Eventually they will get guys like Garrett Mitchell, Blake Perkins, Brandon Woodruff, Aaron Civale, DL Hall, Aaron Ashby, and others back, but for now they need to find a way to get their mojo back and start winning ball games.
