Celtics injury news sees Jayson Tatum joined by one player on Game 5 report

According to Boston Celtics PR, [Jayson Tatum](https://hardwoodhoudini.com/boston-celtics-jayson-tatum-injury-update-successful-surgery-repair-ruptured-achilles-new-york-knicks-game-4-nightmare) is OUT for Wednesday's Game 5 vs. the New York Knicks as he recovers from surgery on his right Achilles tendon. Tatum suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of Monday's Game 4 defeat in New York and had to be carried off the floor. Sam Hauser, however, is PROBABLE to play after missing the previous three games with a right ankle sprain. Hauser turned his ankle while closing out on an OG Anunoby three-point attempt in Game 1. He exited the game and did not return.

Tatum's injury brought things to a halt in the Celitcs community. Fans everywhere were stunned and feared the worst for what may have happened to the star. There was speculation that it was, in fact, the Achilles, but nothing was official until about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

**Jayson Tatum's Achilles surgery was successful**

Taylor Snow was first report that JT underwent a successful surgery on his ruptured tendon. He added that there was not currently a timetable for his return, but Tatum is expected to make a full recovery.

Though there's no timetable just yet, the recovery will likely be a lengthy one. It'll be strange to watch the Celtics without Tatum being out on the floor. He's been so durable throughout his entire tenure with the Cs.

He has suited up in 585 of 636 possible regular-season games for Boston. As if that wasn't enough, he's also missed just one of 122 possible playoff games in his eight seasons as a pro.

Tatum is so integral to Boston's success. His absence will certainly be felt in Game 5 and beyond.

The Celtics star appeared in 72 games for Boston this season, averaging 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per contest.

**The rest of the Celtics were stunned after Tatum went down**

--------------------------------------------------------------

Much like the fanbase, the players were shocked by what went down at Madison Square Garden. As much as dropping the game stung, the concern for their teammate was greater.

“The loss is the loss,” [Al Horford](https://x.com/JaredWeissNBA/status/1922119654371209296) explained to reporters after the loss. “More importantly, it’s Jayson I’m worried about.”

Again, Tatum is one of the more durable players in the league. Seeing him stay down instead of bouncing right up like he normally would was difficult for Joe Mazzulla.

"You're always worried about someone's health, so the fact that he carried off—like you said, he's the type of guy that gets right up. So, he didn't,” Mazzulla said. “We'll know tomorrow exactly what it is, but yeah, I mean, it's tough to watch a guy like him get carried off.”
