“Top of the list” - David Ornstein says Liverpool want to sign ‘world-class’ star alongside…

Liverpool's attention for this season has now turned to the summer transfer window after they won the Premier League for just the second time in the competition's history - and David Ornstein has claimed that Milos Kerkez is at the top of their left-back wishlist as Arne Slot looks to strengthen his squad.

The title was wrapped up at the end of April with a 5-1 hammering of Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, and although their Champions League run came crashing to an end against Paris Saint-Germain, it's been a solid campaign with all things considered, especially with Slot taking over from club legend Jurgen Klopp.

Ornstein: Milos Kerkez 'Number One Target' For Liverpool

The Hungarian has been massively impressive for Liverpool in recent weeks

That feat is especially impressive given that Slot only brought in one player last summer, though solo acquisition Federico Chiesa hasn't played much - and so the majority of last season's squad has dragged them to the title.

And with more money to spend in the coming months, Ornstein has claimed that Kerkez is the main target for Anfield chiefs to consider - with the Hungarian having had an excellent campaign at Bournemouth. Ornstein said on the Sky Sports Back Pages podcast:

"It would probably require either Andy Robertson, or may more likely [Kostas] Tsimikas to leave. At the top of the list is Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth.

"They will have other options too. What they do there may affect what type of right-back they bring in if they bring one in, because don't forget, they've got Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez as options. I would expect Jarell Quansah to leave."

Kerkez has started every league game for Bournemouth, and at the age of just 21, he could be a 'world-class' shoo-in to become Andy Robertson's long-term replacement, with the Scot having been a mainstay at Anfield for a number of years.

Five assists and two goals from left-back is an outstanding tally, and given that Liverpool have averaged almost 10 percent more possession than the Cherries this season, those numbers will only likely increase if he does make the move to Anfield, which seems a distinct possibility given Robertson's slight decrease in form this season and Tsimikas' bit-part role on Merseyside.
