Rob McElhenney says why he doesn't 'care' about Wrexham being promoted to Premier League right…

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has been asked about the club reaching the Premier League.

Wrexham won promotion to the Championship on April 26 with a 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.

They set a personal record for most points ever in an EFL season and also became the first team in history to win three promotions in a row from the National League or above.

With the League One campaign over, attention is already beginning to turn towards the Championship and beyond.

Rob McElhenney backs Wrexham for success in the coming years, while Ben Foster made a Premier League prediction for the club following their latest promotion.

Ryan Reynolds thinks Wrexham will reach the Premier League in the next decade, while his fellow co-owner has been quizzed on the English top flight this week.

Fresh off the back of the club’s pre-season celebrations in Las Vegas, Rob appeared on The Rich Eisen Show alongside Elliot Lee and Steven Fletcher.

When doing so, the host asked what it would mean for Wrexham to reach the Premier League with another promotion.

McElhenney went on to admit he doesn’t care about the next promotion, instead focusing on being ‘grateful’ for the moment they are in and caring about the team’s current promotion.

He said: “At the end of this season, we were trying to figure out which game, so many different things had to happen mathematically for the equation to work out. But we got to the end of the season, and I just flew out there, and I said guys, I’m with you to the end.

“I don’t know when the last game is going to be I don’t know if we’re going to get promoted automatically I don’t know if we’re going to go through the playoffs I don’t know if we’re going to lose and it’s going to happen next year or it’s going to happen the year after that.

“I don’t care about that, and I really don’t. What’s most important to me is to be grateful for the moment that we have right in front of us.

“So, and I say this with all honesty, I don’t care about the next promotion, I care about this one.”

Four promotions in a row would be a historic feat and would likely require a lot more spending from the club.

Humphrey Ker suggested recently that Wrexham will need to spend 10 times as much if they want to reach the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the Red Dragons’ spending compared to relegated Premier League teams in 2024/25 shows just how much money is coming down into the Championship this season and what the Welsh side must compete with.

Wrexham’s finances are positive, and there should be money to spend this summer, but it remains to be seen if they can cause another upset and win a fourth straight promotion.
