Manchester United will have £100m “to spend” irrespective of whether they win the Europa League, according to the Daily Mail reporter Ian Ladyman.
However, if Ruben Amorim’s side do end up beating Tottenham in the final next week, Ladyman says that the budget could double in size:
“Somebody told me that there’s a ballpark figure of about £100m to spend for Manchester United, without getting into the Champions League. Which is why we’ve seen them dip their toe in the water for Cunha at Wolves and Delap at Ipswich.”

“I think they feel they can do those deals without European football, that’s what I was told. If they do get the Champions League, you can chuck another £100m into that too, and therefore two players becomes four or five players and that’s half a team.”
Man United may splash the bulk of their current budget on two forwards
As Ladyman mentions, the Red Devils are hoping to secure the services of Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.
The pair have release clauses in their contracts worth a combined £92m so it appears that the funds are already in place to buy them. That is something which was corroborated by another journalist, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, last week.
It will be a summer of change at Old Trafford
From the sound of things, Champions League qualification will make it much easier for head coach Ruben Amorim to transform the squad. Without that additional £100m, any further signings would have to be funded through player sales.
It means some difficult decisions may need to made on Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, in addition to offloading outcasts such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony.
The result on Wednesday week in Spain could well define how quickly Amorim can change the club’s fortunes on the pitch.
