One area of focus this summer for Manchester United will be to sign a new goalkeeper to either replace or challenge Andre Onana as the number one in Ruben Amorim’s side.
After a season of goalkeeping blunders, Ruben Amorim is thought to be keen on adding a new shot stopper to the ranks this summer.
Andre Onana has looked like a shell of the player Manchester United signed from Inter Milan for £44m, particularly this season, with mistake after mistake costing the Red Devils points and being a contributing factor in the club sitting 16th in the league table.
Back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has been no better, with 10 goals conceded in his last three games, which does not inspire confidence in his shot-stopping ability. Meanwhile, the third choice, Tom Heaton, is in line for a new contract at United to retain his place as the experienced head in the group.
Due to this, it is thought that two new signings might arrive in the position, with United interested in re-signing Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic for cheap.
But he isn’t the only option currently being linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Simon Stone shares Manchester United goalkeeper update on Senne Lammens
The goalkeeper situation is one United will not be prioritising this summer, but it could become a necessity through sales.
More United News
BBC’s Simon Stone has stated that Bayindir is ‘almost certain to go’ this summer, but the club are hoping Elyh Harrison and Hubert Graczyk can fill the second choice role. He however adds the one name he has heard in connection with United.
“Antwerp’s Senne Lammens is a name I hear quite often, so I wouldn’t be surprised if United go for him.”
Stone went on to explain the situation for the 6ft 3in tall goalkeeper from Royal Antwerp.
“However, at 22, with no experience of European competitions and no senior caps, it feels too much of a leap to bring him in as a first choice. However, Lammens has a lot of promise, so if he came in, Amorim could gauge for himself whether the Belgian was good enough.”
Lammens, despite his inexperience, is among Europe’s best goalkeepers this season and when compared with Onana this is increasingly clear. Lammens has been the best goalkeeper in Belgium this season which bodes well for his development and likely interested parties this summer.
How Senne Lammens compares with Andre Onana
Signing Lammens is far from guaranteed and he would likely be more a successor than a replacement for Onana at United.
Given his age and likely reasonable fee, Lammens would be able to arrive and settle in before fighting with Onana for the starting position in goal for Amorim’s side.
Senne Lammens vs Andre Onana 2024/25 league performances
Lammens Statistic Onana
88 Saves 166
67.2% Save percentage 78.7%
43 Goals conceded 45
0.70 Goals prevented 17.20
9 Clean sheets 10
1 Penalties saved 4
3 Errors leading to a goal 2
9 Sweeping actions 11
21 High claims 55
As seen in the table, Lammens has had a much better season, with his ability to prevent more than 17 goals a huge factor in why his Antwerp side are in the Belgian First Division A and not fighting against teams in the lower groups.
Obviously, the step from Belgian football to the Premier League is huge, but he is showing all the signs of being capable.
