Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as they line up summer reinforcements.
United Interested in Adam Wharton as Midfield Reshuffle Approaches
Manchester Utd boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly pushing hard for the signing of Crystal Palace sensation Adam Wharton. The 21-year-old is being scouted as a top midfield target.
The midfielder moved from Blackburn Rovers to Crystal Palace just a year ago. But, he has already set the Premier League on fire in no time. Major clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Spurs, Newcastle, and Aston Villa all have him added to their list of potential targets.
The Eagles are willing to keep him and are planning to extend his deal. Although, formal talks haven’t kicked off yet. At the same time the player’s value has shot up so quickly he is now already in the England squad for Euro 2024, which is a real indication of his potential and ability being so young.
Compared to Carrick, Adam Fits United’s Future Plans
Utd’s interest comes at a time when they’re looking to refresh their aging midfield. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are nearing the end of their playing days. Additonally, there is real questions over Kobbie Mainoo’s long-term future. So, Adam does appear to be the perfect fit.
He is composed, has vision, and is able to control play. These are all the qualities that people saw who compared him to Utd great Michael Carrick.
Indeed, former defender for the Red Devils, Rio Ferdinand has announced his backing of this move. He is suggesting that Wharton has what it takes to fill Carrick’s old shoes at Old Trafford. Of course, Palace will demand a big fee. Although, currently United and Newcastle are leading the race to land him.
The Red Devils see the Eagles star as a long-term midfield anchor. He can help Ruben Amorim build a new era at the club.
