Newcastle United are showing interest in a surprise summer move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed.
The Magpies have reportedly made contact with the Spanish international’s agents over a potential move to St James’ Park and are believed to be among several Premier League clubs to have initiated talks.
The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are also among Williams’ admirers, although the two London clubs are reportedly at the front of the queue at the moment.
Williams was linked with a move to the Emirates last summer and reports have claimed he has a £50m release clause in his contract, which runs until June 2027.

According to Bailey, while Williams would be open to a Premier League switch this summer, he could end up staying at Bilbao if they manage to secure Champions League football for next season.
The talented winger is unwilling to make a decision over his future at the Basque club until their final league position is confirmed, as they currently sit fourth in La Liga with three games remaining.
Williams, praised as ‘one of the best wingers in the world’, has been exceptional for Bilbao this season, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
Newcastle are expected to bring reinforcements to Eddie Howe’s frontline this summer, with a new striker and a right-sided winger on the agenda.
The Magpies have yet to replace Miguel Almiron following his January return to Atlanta United and are likely to part ways with Callum Wilson, whose contract expires next month.
