Ruben Amorim is finding out – the hard way – that the Manchester United job is like no other.
The responsibilities of being Manchester United head coach are not felt across the board in football management. Few managers know what it is like to experience the pressure of managing the biggest football club in the world, and fewer have done it with success.
Sir Alex Ferguson is deservedly renowned as the greatest manager of all time. His legacy cannot be replicated, but Ruben Amorim is now in charge, trying to restore Manchester United to their former glories. That could start next week when United take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
A win for Amorim’s side would secure a place in next season’s Champions League. That will be the aim for United for the remainder of the season, brushing aside the importance of league matches.
Amorim has had to juggle with a limited squad since becoming head coach, while forcing his preferred style on the group of players. It remains to be seen who he will keep ahead of next season, or who he will be able to get rid of.

Ruben Amorim has conducted 491 interviews at Manchester United
Since becoming United’s head coach, it feels like the camera has followed Amorim’s every move.
It has now come to light, thanks to the Daily Mail, that Amorim has conducted 491 interviews since taking charge at United. That shows that no club in the world attracts the same level of publicity as United, therefore making his job a lot harder because it brings extra scrutiny.
The Premier League’s media rights agreement grants broadcasters a 15-minute pre-match interview with every manager ahead of league games, but there is higher demand when it comes to coverage for United games.

Amorim is also committed to media duties with the club, working closely with their media team, making match days a tiring experience for the boss.
United stresses that they keep Amorim’s media duties at a minimum, but we can’t imagine it being any worse. It feels like one of the broadcasters gets an exclusive interview with the coach each week, usually asking the same questions with viewers not learning anything new.
The United head coach carries out a range of interviews every week. This morning, for example, United will be hosting their Europa League final media day with an open training session.
That means Amorim is going to have more interviews scheduled than usual because the buildup for next week’s Europa League final has begun.
