By now, most Liverpool fans are aware of the club’s interest in Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutchman has evolved into one of Europe’s most dynamic full-backs under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, racking up 4 goals and 12 assists in 35 league appearances.

Crucially, Frimpong’s homegrown status (developed at Manchester City’s academy) helps Liverpool meet Premier League squad requirements, especially with Caoimhin Kelleher and Tyler Morton likely departing.

Personal terms are not expected to hinder negotiations, with Frimpong reportedly “excited” by Arne Slot’s project and eager to reunite with Netherlands teammates Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.

Leverkusen are aware of the player’s desire to move on with the Premier League his ideal destination.

One of the key factors driving Liverpool’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is his €35 million (£30 million) release clause, which is notably below his estimated market value.

The structure of this clause allows payment in four instalments, as we exclusively revealed last week, making the initial outlay particularly attractive given Frimpong’s quality and profile.

This flexible payment arrangement enables Liverpool to manage their budget more efficiently and pursue reinforcements in other priority areas, such as center-back and forward, as part of their summer transfer strategy

Then on Monday, DAVEOCKOP exclusively reported that Liverpool’s pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong had gone up a level with the player’s representative returning to the UK to initiate preliminary discussions with the Anfield leadership. These talks took place on Monday.

While negotiations are still at an early stage, it’s believed that “things could move quickly” given the aforementioned release clause, which could facilitate a swift resolution if all parties reach an agreement

Securing Frimpong early allows Liverpool to allocate resources to other targets that will surely be needed at Anfield as part of Arne Slot’s overhaul.

The Dutch manager still needs to imprint his own idea on the squad having worked with Jurgen Klopp’s squad this 2024/25 season. Frimpong could be the first step in this evolution.

Naturally, Liverpool are not without competition. Following on from our earlier exclusives, we revealed that both Aston Villa and Barcelona are keen on the wingback.

Aston Villa’s owners are ambitious and financially capable of activating Frimpong’s release clause, but their chances of signing him may depend on whether they can offer Champions League football.

At this stage, it appears unlikely that Villa will be able to convince Frimpong to choose a move to the Midlands.

Should Barcelona step up their pursuit, Liverpool may face strong competition. However, for now, the Dutch international is highly interested in joining Anfield.
