Frank Lampard’s Coventry City will not be joining Leeds United in the Premier League after their play-off defeat to Sunderland.
Leeds United and Burnley have already sealed their spot in the Premier League for the next campaign, though it is yet to be determined who will be joining them.
However, it will now either be Sheffield United or Sunderland after the two beat Bristol City and Coventry in their semi-finals, respectively.
Dan Ballard scored a remarkable 122nd-minute equaliser at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening to book their place at Wembley, and what Lampard did after the defeat will leave a smirk on the faces of everyone associated with Leeds.

Lampard devastated after last-second Coventry exit
Fortunately for Leeds, they didn’t have to endure the play-offs this season, but everyone affiliated with Elland Road will know just how heartbreaking it can be.

Coventry were seconds away from taking Sunderland to a penalty shootout, and given the Black Cats’ record from the spot this season, it would have favoured them massively.

Sunderland won 3-2 on aggregate.
But that wasn’t to be the case courtesy of Ballard, and Lampard was visually devastated after the game, and he was very, very sour in his interview.
Via Sky Sports, he said: “Over the two games, we dominated at home for possession, and I think we dominated a huge period of this game. Wave after wave of control, and the players are giving everything.
“We were competing with the parachute teams week after week. They don’t deserve it, the players. We were the better team over the two football matches.”

Lampard, stop crying – from all Leeds supporters
Other than perhaps Wayne Rooney, there isn’t a manager that Leeds would want this to happen to more than Lampard, given the history between the two in the past.
After the entire saga with Marcelo Bielsa, Lampard has become a very unpopular figure among those at Elland Road, and they will thrive on his most recent downfall.
Leeds supporters will be all geared up for life back in the Premier League, while Lampard’s Coventry have yet another Championship campaign to attend to.
As for those on Wearside, celebrations will be ongoing for the next few days ahead of their play-off final with Sheffield United in just 10 days’ time, where Leeds will find out who the last team to join them in the Premier League will be.
