Newcastle United now linked to £50 star winger dubbed 'one of the best wingers in the world'

· 14 May 2025, 11:30

**One of Newcastle United's top priorities this summer is to find a replacement for Miguel Almiron on the right wing, following the Paraguayan's sale back to Atlanta United in January.**

The Magpies have needed a new right-sided forward for a while now, even before Miggy's departure, and now, with just Jacob Murphy as a natural fit for that position, the need to buy has been ramped up drastically.

Newcastle remain confident they can sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, although it's believed the Cameroon international will set the Magpies back at least £60 million thanks to his stellar season for the Bees.

Paul Mitchell has cast a wide net and included players with different qualities to find the right man for the job, so not all eggs will be in the Mbeumo basket.

Newcastle have made an enquiry over Nico Williams

-------------------------------------------------

The latest name to be linked with a switch to Tyneside is Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, who was the subject of many a transfer story last summer with links to several Premier League sides.

Journalist Graeme Bailey (via [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/newcastle-make-contact-for-one-of-the-best-wingers-in-the-world/)) now believes Newcastle are considering a move for the Spain star who reportedly has a £50 million release clause in his contract.

The winger dubbed ([by his own club](https://www.athletic-club.eus/en/players/nicholas-williams-arthuer), mind) as one of the best wingers in the world is open to a move to the Premier League, but there is a condition standing in the way.

Nico Williams will likely stay at Athletic Club if they qualify for the Champions League

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 22-year-old, while open to a move to England, is also more than happy to stay at Athletic Bilbao if they manage to qualify for the Champions League, which is still a real possibility.

Newcastle are unlikely to be the only big club in the mix for Williams, even though he has had a relatively quiet season with just five goals and five assists in 28 La Liga games.

Managing to sign such a talented winger well ahead of his prime for £50 million would be a huge statement by the Magpies, but we're not 100% convinced we're really in this race just yet, especially as Williams is waiting until the end of the season to make any decisions on his future.
