Bayer Leverkusen director speaks out on Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen managing director Fernando Carro has insisted that a move to Liverpool is not imminent for Jeremie Frimpong.

[Sport.de have an exclusive interview](https://www.sport.de/news/ne7766513/bayer-leverkusen-carro-reagiert-auf-frimpong-geruechte/) with the director today in which he attempts to pour cold water over the growing reports around Frimpong and Liverpool.

The full-back has seemingly been closing in on a move to Liverpool over the last week, with numerous reports making the deal sound as good as done.

The belief is that the Reds are ready to activate Frimpong’s release clause in his contract at Leverkusen and make him their replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is leaving on a free transfer and on his way to Real Madrid.

Carro, though, wants to pull those back, insisting that he and the rest of Leverkusen are not aware of any imminent transfer.

_“Jeremie Frimpong has a long contract with us, although he also has an exit clause, we are currently not aware of any change,”_ he said.

_“The rumours also surprised me a bit when I started in the football business seven years ago. Gradually I’m there for a longer time, there are always different interested parties, there are different parties, there are different relationships._

_“It’s actually very difficult to get where the rumours come from, but I have to say there are many which really surprise me.”_

[SportBILD, though](https://sportbild.bild.de/), report that a deal is advancing thanks to the €40m release clause in Frimpong’s current contract.

They say that Liverpool, via Arne Slot, have been in contact with the player throughout the season, seeking a replacement for Alexander-Arnold.  That deal is now expected to go through.

So, either Carro is uninformed or Frimpong’s move to Liverpool is currently all being done between the player and the Redd and Leverkusen are yet to be informed of anything happening. We’re inclined to go with the latter.
