Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi left Newcastle United last year and have flirted with a Premier League return.

Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi brushed shoulders with the king and queen consort at a charity event in West London.

The former Newcastle United co-owners - who sold their shares to the Public Investment Fund and Reuben family last year - attended the Elephant Family function yesterday. Set up by Mark Shand, brother of Queen Camilla, who passed away in 2014, the NGO aims to protect the Asian elephant from extinction.

Staveley has previous royal family links, having been in a relationship with Prince Andrew two decades ago. Married to Ghodoussi since 2011, the couple were at the star-studded function at the Royal Botanical Gardens.

Other high-profile names include Brazilian legend Ronaldo and actor Ed Westwick. Overall, more than 250 guests attended the event.

Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi confirm appearance

Staveley posted on social media about feeling “honoured” to have supported the king and queen She wrote on Instagram: “An honour to be in company with Their Majesty’s, The King and Queen, this evening. Coming together to celebrate their support of The Elephant Family.”

Ghodoussi donned a slick black tuxedo, accompanying Staveley, who also wore a black dress. He posted: “An evening with the King and Queen, celebrating the Elephant Family.”

King Charles delivers environmental speech

King Charles paid tribute to those working for the charity to rescue elephants in India. He told guests: “This evening is an opportunity as well to pay a special tribute, I think, to all the wonderful people who are doing all the work on the ground in India to rescue not just elephants now, but even more species as the trust and the (Elephant) Family develop an even greater ability to manage the human and animal conflict.

“And it just seems to me that this is a great example of why collaboration is far better than conflict and also why, if we’re doing to rescue this poor planet from continuing degradation and restore some harmony to the proceedings, we must also understand that whatever we take and exploit from nature we need to give something back in return to enable nature to sustain us.”

Amanda Staveley plans Premier League return

Staveley revealed last year that she is plotting a return to top-level football. Her comments came amid reports linking the couple with a possible involvement at Tottenham Hotspur.

"First of all, I think all we can do is thank the amazing Newcastle community and the founders for all the support that we had and continue to get," Staveley said. "It's so hard to move on from a club that's amazing. We could never move on from Newcastle and we never will.

“But yes, we're looking at a number of investment operations. We can't say too much at the moment because of you know, rules around it. But we will be able to talk about it, hopefully in the not too distant future."
