Report: Everton now considering move for EFL club's Player of the Season

Everton are changing their recruitment strategy this summer transfer window.

David Moyes has placed emphasis on shopping in the Championship, where he believes there are some of the future Premier League superstars.

“I know we’re in a world where we can pick players from any continent to play in the Premier League,” Moyes explained in January.

“A long time ago, it wasn’t as easy and maybe people didn’t look as far. We continue to look closer to home, which is the Championship. Last year, the Championship produced some incredible players like (Morgan) Rogers, (Adam) Wharton, (Jaden) Philogene possibly.”

Already, Everton have been linked to several Championship players, with Burnley’s Maxime Esteve high up on Moyes’ list of priorities.

Now, a fresh rumour has just emerged, this time linking the Toffees with a move for a Bristol City player.

Everton considering move for Bristol City captain Jason Knight

Everton are in the market for a midfielder this summer, with Sunderland’s Dan Neil believed to be on the Friedkin’s radar.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, the Toffees are considering a move for Bristol City captain Jason Knight over the coming weeks.

Knight’s side suffered a bruising 5-0 aggregate defeat to Sheffield United in the Championship play-off semi-finals, so he is expected to be attainable.

It’s understood a ‘good offer’ would see Bristol sanction Knight’s sale, though, there’s been no word on his valuation.

Everton have been scouting the 24-year-old all season and clearly believe he’d be well-suited to Moyes’ midfield.

Knight won Bristol City’s Player of the Season

Knight, who played every single minute of the Championship campaign, was voted Bristol City’s Player of the Season.

The Robins skipper registered nine goal involvements from midfield and his manager Liam Manning believes he’s going right to the top.

“Phenomenal,” Manning told Bristol Live when asked about Knight’s season. “I love him to bits, I think he’s first class.

“He has a huge future ahead of him when you just look at everything about him. It hit us on day one walking through the door, he role models everything that you want and I think he’s really added the leadership and the voice in the changing room. I think he’s really grown that over the course of the season.

“His game understanding, I think, has massively improved. He’s got to work on his finishing off his left foot because an inch lower and it would have made my life a lot easier, but he’s a dream to work with.

“He’s one of those that, again, he’s so driven and that’s exactly what we want.”

By the sounds of it, Knight would be a fantastic addition for the Toffees.
