Report: Amorim green lights Man Utd move to sign "special" £80m Premier League midfielder

Ruben Amorim has 'said yes' to Manchester United’s potential summer pursuit of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, journalist Rudy Galetti has revealed.

The Portuguese manager is reportedly a ‘huge admirer’ of the England international, who has been on United’s radar as a potential midfield recruit for several months.

United are expected to reinforce their options in the middle of the park this summer, with Christian Eriksen’s contract expiring next month and Casemiro attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.

The Red Devils are believed to be considering several options alongside Wharton, including former Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz and Real Betis sensation Johnny Cardoso.

According to Galetti, United are planning to sign at least one new central midfielder this summer and could face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs in the race for Wharton’s signature.

The one-cap England international is also admired by Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle, as well as several top clubs across Europe.

Palace, who signed Wharton from Blackburn Rovers in the winter of 2024, are in a strong position to demand a big fee, as the midfielder is under contract until June 2029.

Galetti claims it could take more than £80m to land the ‘special’ 21-year-old this summer, potentially making him one of the most expensive midfield signings in history.

United are preparing for a busy start to their first summer window under Amorim, with a deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha now progressing.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are expected to pay his £62.5m release clause in instalments and are edging closer to an agreement for the Brazilian’s move to Manchester.
