Report: Leeds now eyeing move to sign 'exceptional' PL defender, he's open to staying in England

Leeds United are keeping close tabs on West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal ahead of the summer transfer window, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has revealed.

The Whites are reportedly tracking the Czech right-back ahead of his contract expiry at the London Stadium and, along with Everton, are among the English clubs keen on his arrival.

Coufal is expected to leave West Ham after the season, having been told his contract will not be renewed, and wants to continue playing in England, where his family has settled.

The 32-year-old’s son has started his own football career in London and has just signed for West Ham’s academy for the 2025/26 season.

According to Crook, Leeds want to add more experience to Daniel Farke’s squad ahead of their Premier League return next season and have identified Coufal as an option at right-back.

However, the Whites are likely to face competition from Everton in the race to sign the Czech Republic international, as David Moyes is a big admirer of the ‘exceptional’ defender, whom he signed for the east London club during his tenure as manager.

Coufal was also targeted by Fulham in January, and there is anticipation the Cottagers may revisit their interest once he becomes a free agent in July.

Leeds are anticipating a busy summer ahead of their Premier League return and are eyeing reinforcements in midfield as well.

While they remain interested in Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips, the Whites have also recently emerged as potential suitors for James McAtee.

According to reports, Leeds are facing competition from a host of top-flight clubs for the 22-year-old, who is expected to leave Man City for a fee in the region of £25m this summer.
