Gary Neville did not hold back on his assessment of Manchester United’s final few weeks of the Premier League season.
A 2-0 loss to West Ham on the weekend was Manchester United’s 17th league defeat of the season, leaving the Red Devils 16th in the table.
Ruben Amorim described the position as “embarrassing”, putting even more pressure on him to win the Europa League final later this month to secure a spot in the Champions League.
Amorim is expected to finish in the top six next season, but his win rate in the Premier League so far this season suggests that could be a huge challenge.

Gary Neville refuses to watch Ruben Amorim’s Man United
It is no secret that United have been prioritising the Europa League this season after it became clear that it was the only remaining route to Champions League qualification.
Neville feels ‘sickly’ about the Europa League final knowing how important it is to the Red Devils and their future.
However, when it comes to Premier League matches, Neville has admitted that he has refused to watch his former side.

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville said: “To be fair, I’ve got to a point where it’s even worse than anger. I just don’t even care about the weekends anymore. It’s ridiculous.
“There’s no explanation.
“The one thing that makes me angry is the 75,000 people turning up watching us get beat by West Ham and Wolves. They’re still turning up every weekend.”
Ruben Amorim understands the pressure of Man United
While Amorim’s mentality has been criticised because of United’s poor form in the league, he showed this week that he is very aware of what is at stake.
After the defeat to West Ham, Amorim admitted he is under huge pressure and will be sacked if things don’t turn around. He knows the league form is unacceptable, but big changes are needed in the summer.
Amorim is already looking beyond the Europa League final and planning for the new season knowing that his future is at stake.

In the Premier League, Amorim complained about United’s ‘urgency’ and that has been a complaint made by managers over the last decade.
A complete mentality and culture shift is needed, and Amorim’s honesty proves he is the right person to lead that change.
