Chelsea confident of securing signature of Manchester United target

Manchester United’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal has become one of the dominant narratives of their season, with just 52 goals scored in 37 league games.

That return ranks among their lowest ever in the Premier League era, highlighting the urgent need for fresh firepower.

Ruben Amorim has been clear in recent weeks that United will be “brave” in the market, with multiple incomings and outgoings expected.

One of the major talking points inside the club has been identifying a forward who can both press aggressively and score consistently.

One name that has come up again and again is Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.

Chelsea are pushing ahead with their own recruitment strategy and are increasingly confident of securing one of the most coveted young forwards in English football—despite interest from United, as per The Sun.

The 22-year-old striker has impressed this season with 12 goals in a struggling Ipswich Town side, and a £30million release clause makes him an affordable option for top-flight clubs.

United had hoped their long-standing admiration, coupled with their own attacking rebuild, would be enough to lure Liam Delap to Old Trafford.

But the player is reportedly leaning towards a reunion with Enzo Maresca, now in charge at Chelsea, having previously worked under him in Manchester City’s academy.

The Blues’ recruitment chief Joe Shields, who originally brought him to City from Derby County, is also playing a key role in the chase.

Delap’s decision is expected soon, with Arsenal also monitoring the situation.

But the fear within Old Trafford is that yet another bright English prospect could slip through their fingers.

Delap’s father, Rory, is remembered for his time at Stoke City, but the younger Delap has made a name for himself in his own right and trained with the England senior team earlier this year.

With goals in short supply and options limited, missing out on a forward of Delap’s profile would be a huge blow to Amorim’s plans—especially if he ends up strengthening a direct rival.
