Laia Aleixandri says she was honoured to step in as one of City's captains during her three-season stay at the Club.
It was confirmed after the Blues’ final game of the 2024/25 season that the Spain international will leave Nick Cushing’s side upon the expiry of her contract this summer.
In the defender’s first two City terms, she made 54 appearances and helped us match our highest points tally in the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2023/24.
Ahead of the most recent campaign, Aleixandri was then selected into our leadership group with Alex Greenwood becoming Club captain following Steph Houghton’s retirement in the summer of 2024.
However, with the England international unfortunately missing over four months of last season through injury the Spaniard wore the armband in her absence.

For Aleixandri, leading the team was a source of immense pride ahead of her departure.
“I’ve enjoyed [being captain] a lot,” she declared.
“Being captain for this Club and for this team is a privilege and I had the opportunity, I tried to do my best of course.
“I think everyone has different leadership [skills] and I was just trying to give my best for the team and give everything for this Club and team.
“Looking back now, I’m happy with what I did for the Club and for the armband and what it means for this Club and for me, it’s really special.”
