Midweek MSU Sports Update

Jase Richardson is currently working his way through the NBA draft combine, which runs through May 18 in Chicago. The NBA posted [this](https://x.com/NBA/status/1922051672139808795?utm_source=blog.msuspartanbrew.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=spartan-brew-5-14-pursuit-to-greatness&_bhlid=7c5731a56db14e53f0027bc96c30418ce6e4fab9) on Monday where Richardson talks about his dad, Jason, and how hard he’s working towards his NBA dream.

In another interesting nugget from the combine, Richardson’s [measurements](https://x.com/DraftExpress/status/1922025922397454789?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1922025922397454789%7Ctwgr%5Ee3224be32afc4f21f76d6c1df842c857d4825324%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fspartanswire.usatoday.com%2Fstory%2Fsports%2Fcollege%2Fspartans%2Fmens-basketball%2F2025%2F05%2F12%2Fmsu-basketball-jase-richardson-nba-combine-measurements%2F83589325007%2F) differed a bit from where he was listed at MSU. At the combine, Richardson was measured at 6’-0.5” and 178.4 pounds, which were both less than the 6’-3”, 185 figures that MSU reported.

This is undersized for an NBA shooting guard and there may be speculation that it could affect Richardson’s draft positioning. However, Jase did show proficiency at the point when given the opportunity at MSU.

In football news, Jonathan Smith added a seventh defensive back transfer this offseason with the addition of former Texas Tech safety Devynn Cromwell. The Spartans added three players to the defensive backfield following the opening of the winter transfer portal window with Joshua Eaton (Texas State), Malcolm Bell (UConn), and NiJhay Burt (Eastern Illinois). Cromwell is the fourth DB to join following the spring portal window, joining Dontavius Nash (East Carolina), Tracy Revels (Bowling Green), and former junior college All-American Anthony Pinnace.

Cromwell is from Ontario and played four years at the University of Guelph before transferring to Texas Tech. In his lone season with the Red Raiders, Cromwell made two starts and gave up only 3 catches yielding 14 yards on 8 targets according to Pro Football Focus.

Cromwell has one season of eligibility remaining.
