Newcastle United are set to welcome Malaga youngster Antonio Cordero into the club this summer.
Cordero is still playing for the Spanish second tier side but is widely expected to join Newcastle United imminently.
While there hasn’t been any official confirmation yet, it’s thought that Newcastle have signed Cordero on a pre-contract agreement.
The 18-year-old was in demand, too. Barcelona tried to sign Cordero but Newcastle have seemingly won the race, although what happens next is unclear.
Indeed, fresh reports from Spain hint at another development.

Malaga make Antonio Cordero transfer request clear
According to Fondo Segunda, the Spanish club are keen to keep the teenager next season.
They reportedly want to convince both the player and Newcastle that staying with them for an extra year on loan would be the best thing for his development.
The report adds that Newcastle’s coaching staff will have the final say. Should they consider it a good idea, Malaga will open formal talks about a loan move.

They also claim that Cordero will sign a five-year contract at Newcastle this summer.

Antonio Cordero’s stats for Malaga in 2024-25 season
Staying at Malaga another season would make sense, although much will depend on how highly the coaching staff rate him at this stage of his career. While the winger looks an exciting talent, expecting him to break straight into Eddie Howe’s first team at Newcastle seems unwise.
Still, the Spanish side may struggle to land him. Ajax want to sign Cordero on loan from Newcastle and, on paper, that looks a much better move.
That would give him the experience of playing for a huge club, one who look set to be in the Champions League next season.
Cordero’s immediate future at Newcastle is unclear but it seems he’ll have options this summer.
