David Moyes shocks Angus Kinnear with 'interesting' topic in first Everton meeting together

Everton fans are gearing up for a huge summer that will see a lot of changes at the football club.

The Toffees easily secured their safety ahead of the 2025/26 season, allowing for a comfortable end to the campaign.

On Sunday, it’s the final game at Goodison Park against Southampton and thankfully, there will be no worries about relegation.

It promises to be a great and also emotional day, but fans are very much looking forward to the post-Goodison era.

And one man tasked with making it a successful one is CEO Angus Kinnear, who has given an intriguing first interview today.

And in that interview, he spoke about the man he’ll be in very close contact with in the coming months and potential years, David Moyes.

Kinnear recently became Everton’s new CEO, joining the club from Leeds United.

There is also a possibility that Nick Hammond could follow Kinnear to Everton. Currently, he is a football advisor at Leeds United.

Kinnear has a big role to play in helping to get Everton back to where they need to be, which is competing for European football.

He’s given a first interview with the club’s media team – and his comments about Moyes were especially intriguing, because they hint the Scot will be looking to call on youth moving forwards.

He said: “Our relationship’s critical. I think dialogue between the CEO and the manager is important. I think it’s a key conduit to the relationship with the ownership.

“I’m delighted David Moyes is our manager. Not only does he understand the club, but he’s proven how successful he can be.

“He also has a belief in the long-term. It’s interesting, the first meeting I had with him, rather than talking about the structure of the squad, the first thing we talked about was the academy, and his belief that part of the DNA of Everton was that we were developing homegrown players that would represent the first-team.

“I think it’s rare now that you get a manager who has such a holistic view of the club, of the full entity of the club. We’re very lucky to have David, on top of the fact he’s obviously a great first-team manager as he’s shown in the way he’s turned the team around over the last half of the season.”

An impressive interview from Kinnear

It was really interesting to hear Kinnear speak, as he laid out the ambitions for Everton going forward.

Ultimately, he is determined to get Everton back challenging for European football and even looking beyond that.

He comes across very well indeed in the 9:22 video, and Evertonians are already praising him and getting excited about the summer ahead.

He clearly feels that having a strong relationship with the manager is important and that is going to be crucial.

It’s great to hear that Moyes will place emphasis on bringing young players through to his first-team from the academy, and hopefully that will mean the likes of Harrison Armstrong and others will get chances from 2025/26 onwards.

Hopefully, this appointment of Kinnear will serve the club well as TFG seek success at Bramley-Moore Dock.
