Man Utd face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final next week as they look to save their season.

Ruben Amorim insists he is 'far from quitting' as Manchester United head coach after he cast doubt over his position following the weekend defeat to West Ham. The 2-0 home loss left United 16th in the Premier League table and marked the 17th time they had lost in the league this season.

Speaking after the latest defeat, Amorim admitted he could be forced to leave the club if their poor form continued into the next season. "We need to be really strong in the summer and to be brave because we will not have a next season like this," he told reporters. "If we start like this, if the feeling is still here, we should give the space to different people."

United have endured a dreadful domestic campaign but could yet salvage their season if they win the Europa League and earn Champions League qualification. Amorim held his pre-match press conference for the final on Wednesday afternoon and clarified his future at the club.

Ruben Amorim does not expect to leave United

Ruben Amorim is well aware Europa League victory would not be enough to transform their season into a successful one, but knows Champions League qualification would be a huge bonus to the club from a financial perspective. Whatever the outcome against Tottenham Hotspur, Amorim is expected to remain in his role as head coach over the summer, and he has reiterated he has no plans to step aside anytime soon.

“What I’m seeing is that since I arrived here I’m always talking about the standards. I cannot see the team having these results, especially in the Premier League and not say nothing and not take the responsibility,” he said. “It's just that I have a clear idea what to do. I understand the problems of the team, so I’m not, I’m far from quitting. What I’m saying is that we need to perform and, we have this season and in the future we need to perform or else they will change us. That is normal thing.”

Victory in Bilbao next week would not only restore United to the top table of European football, it would also hand Amorim his first trophy at the club and end any doubts about his trophy credentials. It would be a huge achievement for the 40-year-old but he has placed club honours over his success.

He added: "Personally for me, Champions League is more important, for everything, to prepare the next season, and we are supposed to be in the Champions League, Europa League here is not enough and you feel it here. This is the best way to help us to get to the top."
