NC State has zeroed in on transfer guard PJ Haggerty as a potentially major addition through the portal for the 2025-26 season. But with Haggerty still going through the NBA Draft Combine process, he has yet to announce an official decision on whether or not he'll stay in the draft or return to college this offseason.
On Wednesday afternoon, Haggerty will get his chance to shine in front of NBA scouts in the 5-on-5 portion of the combine. Haggerty is listed as a shooting guard and will be teamed up with the likes of Mark Sears, Koby Brea, Jamir Watkins and Karter Knox who were all stars in college basketball this past season. The difference for players like Sears and Brea is that they are now out of eligibility and need this showing to work their way into a higher spot on draft boards.
Haggerty has already been at the draft combine earlier this week and completed drills on Tuesday prior to the 5-on-5 competition. He came in at 6-foot-2 ¼ barefoot, 189.4 pounds with a 6-foot-6 ½ wingspan and 8-foot-1 ½ standing reach during the combine anthro measurements. In the shooting drills, Haggerty shot a combined 73 percent, which tied him for third in the entire class.
Last season, Haggerty was one of the most dynamic scoring threats in the country with 21.7 points per game while shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent behind the arc. He also averaged 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game, all nearly identical numbers to his redshirt freshman year at Tulsa the year prior.
The Wolfpack has been linked to Haggerty for several weeks now and appears to be the frontrunner if he elects to return to college next season. While he was rumored to have a $4 million price tag and want to exclusively play point guard at his next stop, both of those appear to be off when it comes to Haggerty. But with the Pack holding several of its cards until the end of the transfer portal, it still has wiggle room to add one of the top transfers in this cycle.
Haggerty is currently the No. 2 overall player and No. 1 point guard in the transfer portal rankings, according to 247Sports. Wolfpack fans will get an opportunity to watch him in action on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2 from the NBA Draft Combine.
