Ruben Amorim insists he has no plans to walk away from Manchester United after hinting on Sunday that someone should replace him if results don't improve.

United have won just six of Amorim's 25 Premier League games in charge and sit 16th in the table with two fixtures to play. Sunday's 2-0 defeat to West Ham means they have failed to win any of their last seven league games.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Amorim said someone else should sit in his seat if things didn't change but in his press conference to preview next week's Europa League final, he clarified that he had no intention of quitting.

Instead, the 40-year-old feels he could get the sack if he doesn't turn fortunes around, with next week's final against Tottenham in Bilbao a chance to start doing just that.

"What I’m seeing is that since I arrived here I’m always talking about the standards," said Amorim. "I cannot see the team having these results, especially in the Premier League and not say nothing and not take the responsibility.

"It's just that I have a clear idea what to do. I understand the problems of the team, so I’m not, I’m far from quitting.

"What I’m saying is that we need to perform and, we have this season and in the future we need to perform or else they will change us. That is normal thing."

Amorim also suggested that qualifying for the Champions League via winning the Europa League wouldn't necessarily be good for his team, but hedid say that a club of United's stature should be in Europe's premier club competition.

"Personally for me I think Champions League is more important for everything - to prepare the next season," he said.

"We are supposed to be in the Champions League. Europa League here is not enough and you have that feeling here. The best way to help us get in the top in a few years is the Champions League - it’s not the cup. So for me Champions League is more important.

"We need more time with the team. We need to arrange a lot of things in Carrington that we need more time to do so we’re not thinking game by game by game.

"Then we have the squad. We proved this year that we need to be a better squad if we want to win European games and then be really competitive in the Premier League. That is going to be tough. My feeling is that."

Asked if not being in the Champions League could be considered a silver lining when next season begins, Amorim said: "No it is going to be really bad. I don’t want to use that as an excuse.

"It is going to be really tough and the patience of the fans and you guys [the media] next year if we don’t win it is going to be on the limit. We would have to be perfect to continue with everything. I know that. So it’s not going to be better in that way."

Amorim also admitted that if he doesn't win the Europa League it could increase the pressure he is under just seven months into the job.

"For sure, if we don’t win, that is clear," he said.
