Report: Wolves want to sign 'powerhouse' Champions League striker to replace Cunha

Wolves are plotting a surprise move to sign Atletico Madrid star Alexander Sorloth this summer, according to Molineux News.

Vitor Pereira is looking to bolster his squad after a fantastic season since he came into the club in December to replace Gary O'Neil, as he helped the team climb up the Premier League table away from a relegation battle and now sit in 14th place with two games remaining.

There are expected to be big changes during the summer window as a result, and the club could now look to make an ambitious move to sign the international teammate of one of their current stars.

With the Molineux expected to see star forward Matheus Cunha depart the club this summer in a big-money move to Manchester United, a replacement is needed and the club need to find a way to add goals to their squad.

That is where Sorloth comes into the thinking of staff, with the former Villarreal hitman a close friend of current striker Jacob-Strand Larsen and a spot playing regular first-team football in a top league up for grabs.

The 29-year-old has scored 17 La Liga goals so far this season, including four in his last outing this past weekend, making him the fifth highest scorer in the division. But he has managed just 13 starts in the league this season, as Diego Simeone has preferred to go with Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann for the most part.

However, it's believed that Sorloth is not particularly interested in a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano this summer and Atletico Madrid don't particularly want him to leave either.

The former Crystal Palace striker has been described as a 'powerhouse' who 'terrorises defences' in the past, and would be a stunning signing for Wolves if they were able to pull it off. But a deal still looks quite unlikely as things stand, and would be quite the coup if something changed in the coming months.
