Rangers are interested in hiring Davide Ancelotti as their new manager, but a deal could still be some way off.
The Italian’s time as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid will come to an end in the coming weeks, as his legendary father is set to leave.
The veteran will now take charge of the Brazil National Team, but his son is expected to go in a different direction and take charge of his own team.
Rangers are among the clubs keen on hiring the 35-year-old, but nothing is certain at this stage, and he may now make a shock decision despite weeks of rumours linking him with managerial roles across Europe.

Ancelotti could choose Brazil over Rangers
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has now claimed that despite the interest in him, Ancelotti could follow his father to the Brazil job and continue as his assistant, having already turned down offers in the past.

“Last summer, Sevilla approached him and he felt it wasn’t the right time,” Balague told STV (13 May).
“Also, Brazil approached both Carlo and Davide and they both said, ‘No, it just doesn’t feel right,’ having won everything with Real Madrid.

Ancelotti’s career so far
“What I know for sure is that as it stands right now, despite all the offers that Davide’s getting, his first choice at the moment, unless something nice, as he says, comes out and convinces him otherwise, he will join Carlo Ancelotti with Brazil. So that’s as it stands from this moment.”
Ancelotti is yet to manage a team himself, but many believe that now could be the perfect time to step into management, and he may view the vacancy at Rangers as a good opportunity to start at a sizeable club.

Rangers need to convince Ancelotti of project
Ancelotti already has a strong reputation in the game, and is highly rated by some of the players he has worked with in his career so far.
This reputation will be on the line as he steps into his first managerial role, in what could be a make or break decision which will determine his success.
Rangers need to convince Ancelotti that they will back him with funds and resources to mark his own stamp on the team, and will also need to show that he can be offered more tactical flexibility than he was allowed at Real Madrid.
Ancelotti’s tactical ideas were often limited by player power in the Real Madrid squad, but it is thought that he may aim to play a higher-pressing style once he takes charge of his own team.
