Manchester United are expected to be in the market for attackers this summer

The Hammers spent more than £120m on new recruits last summer but have plummeted from ninth to 15th in the league table while currently sitting on 12 less points than they finished with last season. West Ham boss Graham Potter will be keen to make plenty of changes this summer after making little progress since replacing Julen Lopetegui mid-season but won’t have a great deal of wriggle room to get deals over the line due to PSR regulations.

This could lead to the London club cashing on one of their prized assets such as 28-year-old Jarrod Bowen although many Hammers fans would argue he’s the kind of player that West Ham should build their team around.

Jarrod Bowen could be perfect answer to Manchester United’s problems

Whether he’s playing through the centre or as a right-sided player, Jarrod Bowen has proven he’s a player that can be relied upon when it comes to scoring goals. He’s stepped up this season with 11 goals and seven assists, meaning he’s been involved in just under 43% of the team’s goals whilst also factoring in that he’s missed around a month of action due to injury.

Bowen also scored 16 league goals last season while contributing seven assists and is the calibre of player that will feel he should be involved more regularly at international level despite playing 16 times for England.

Manchester United are at a crossroads this summer when it comes to recruitment and it’s important that they back Ruben Amorim properly to give the former Sporting boss a fighting chance of proving he can be successful.

Bowen’s work rate, consistency, movement in behind and finishing are all beyond what United currently have at their disposal with perhaps the exception of Bruno Fernandes and it’s clear that he’d be a huge upgrade on their existing offensive options.

Football Insider argues, however, that West Ham would command a figure of around £100m for their club captain and one of their prized assets.

The bold summer swap deal Man Utd could attempt

Jadon Sancho’s loan move from Old Trafford to Chelsea is reported by Sun Sport to be in jeopardy, with the former Borussia Dortmund man struggling to make the required impact in west London. Overall, he’s scored three in the league and contributed four assists while also forming a part of a team which has reached the Conference League final. However, Chelsea are reportedly planning to pay £5m to avoid the deal becoming permanent for between £20m - £25m.

Should that be the case, United could have a problem on their hands with the £73m signing publicly falling out with Erik ten Hag and appearing to have no future under Ruben Amorim. Sancho commands a reported salary of around £250,000 per week and is still under contract until 2026 as he approaches the final year of his deal.

Should Sancho return to United it could hinder any hopes of getting a player like Bowen into the club unless they can use the swap deal market to their advantage. West Ham would most likely try to keep Bowen but if they were to receive an ample offer from United could be willing to listen to offers including Sancho if he was to take a salary cut.

Sancho after all is still 25-years-old, a 23-time England international, and a former Champions League finalist. He’s a player with excellent trickery, speed and the ability to create chances as displayed by his 17 goals and 16 league assists for Dortmund during the 2019/20 season.

If Potter could get anything resembling that sort of player into his West Ham team on the right wages while getting a significant fee for Bowen it’s something that may be listened to. Although for most West Ham fans they’ll be desperate to keep a modern day legend on the books for as long as possible in Bowen.
