Some readers are not thrilled with the constant complaining of NBA players.
**Ken:** “An NBA official has to have strong resolve to put up with the whining that comes with every play. These pampered, undisciplined, unprepared millionaires show no respect for their opponent, authority or the game. That’s one reason why I like baseball so well. There’s an old story about Stan Musial, as well-respected a player as there ever was. He hit a ground ball and was called out by the first-base umpire. So many umpires watch the runner’s feet and listen for the ball hitting the first baseman’s glove, and the first baseman, knowing this, would slap his glove before the ball arrived. Stan jumped right into the face of the umpire, shouting and waving his arms. The umpire, truly taken aback by the unusual ranting coming from such a respected gentleman, asked Stan, ‘Did I miss the call that bad?’, to which Stan replied, ‘Yes, they made the play at third.’ And, with the exception of Pedro and Nolan, there are no real fights. A rhubarb consists of the benches clearing and players hugging each other to the ground. They are smart. They know you can be hurt beyond being able to play.”
**Berry:** With all due respect, if you have to go back at least 62 years, to Stan Musial, to find an athlete with the right stuff, maybe baseball isn’t the gentleman’s game you make it out to be. Draymond Green is a piece of work, but there are no bare-knuckle brawls in basketball. I see ump-berating, bat-tossing, smack-talking baseball players all the time. I see a lack of respect in most every sport.
