Niclas Fullkrug could potentially end his West Ham United stint after just one year in the upcoming transfer window.

The Hammers signed the Germany international from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but his addition hasn’t worked out for the most part.

Fans have appreciated Fullkrug’s honesty at the London Stadium, but his fitness issues have been frustrating.

With Graham Potter struggling in the Premier League since taking charge of the Irons, a massive squad overhaul may be on the horizon, with the 32-year-old one of the casualties.

Besiktas want Fullkrug transfer from West Ham

Besiktas could potentially be interested in signing Fullkrug from the East London outfit next summer, Cagdas Sevinc says.

The Turkish journalist believes the 32-year-old and Ajax striker Wout Weghorst may feature prominently and be serious contenders in the Super Lig outfit’s wishlist in the upcoming transfer window.

Fullkrug’s Premier League record this season.

Sevinc revealed that the German number nine is the sort of striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team will look at in the coming weeks.

Speaking to FutbolArena on X (14 May), the journalist said: “Weghorst and Fullkrug may be more prominent. Neither of them are top scorers, but they fit the definition of a centre-forward.”

Potter should rely on Fullkrug more next season

Fullkrug should stay at the London Stadium next season as he’s put in some promising performances since returning from injuries.

The 32-year-old’s hold-up and link-up play in recent matches has been impressive, and it wouldn’t make sense to sell after investing a lot of money in him.

Considering the German national’s age, the Irons surely won’t be able to recoup most of the transfer fee they spent on him.

West Ham need to give Potter a new striker, though, as Evan Ferguson’s loan move from Brighton hasn’t been fruitful.

The Ireland international will return to the Seagulls at the end of the season, and it seems unlikely that they’ll opt to pursue a permanent deal at the London Stadium.

Fullkrug may not be sold, but the Hammers still need to make sure they bolster their attack soon.

Michail Antonio’s unfortunate accident led to a dearth of options at number nine, and it would be prudent of the Irons to fix that issue.

If the East London outfit do decide to part ways with the 32-year-old centre-forward, it will be interesting to see how much Besiktas will need to pay.
