“Somebody told me…” - Journalist reveals bumper Man Utd transfer budget if they win Europa…

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will see his summer budget determined by the club's result in the Europa League final in Bilbao next week - with Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman suggesting that the Portuguese gaffer could see his spending double if he hoists the trophy to garner some form of acclaim after what has been a horror campaign for the Red Devils.

United currently sit 16th in the Premier League, a shocking campaign by their own standards, and having already recorded their worst-ever finish in the competition, only a win in the continental competition will see them play European football next season, with big financial repercussions if they fail to do so.

Ladyman: Man Utd Budget Will Double if They Win Europa League

Ruben Amorim's summer will be much easier if they are victorious in Bilbao

United are in a bizarre situation. By virtue of their poor league position and outstanding European run, their upcoming final in the Europa League against Tottenham Hotspur is vital to their plans for next season.

If they do beat Ange Postecoglou's men, it will see them win a major trophy and qualify for the Champions League - and the latter would see them improve financially due to the amounts of prize money and broadcast revenue.

And that will see them double their transfer budget for the summer if they are victorious in Bilbao. The Red Devils are set to spend £200million in the summer if they beat Tottenham and have a place at the top European table, according to Ladyman - which would not only give them money for more signings, but it would make them a more attractive outfit for potential incomings to select them over other suitors.

But if they fail to win in northern Spain next week, they'll only spend £100million in the summer, which massively impacts their ability to bring certain players in - which Ladyman stated on the 'It's All Kicking Off' podcast. He said:

“To answer your question. Somebody told me that there’s a ballpark figure of about £100m to spend for Manchester United, without getting into the Champions League. Which is why we’ve seen them dip their toe in the water for Cunha at Wolves and Delap at Ipswich.

“I think they feel they can do those deals without European football, that’s what I was told. If they do get the Champions League, you can chuck another £100m into that too, and therefore two players becomes four or five players and that’s half a team.”

Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town talisman Liam Delap have been linked, with both players set to arrive even if United aren't victorious in a cup final for the third season running - but they would take up the bulk of a £100million budget for the Red Devils, with Cunha's release clause being around £62.5million and Delap's relegation release clause standing at just £30million after Ipswich's relegation to the Championship was confirmed in April.

United have spent over £100million in five of the last six summer windows, with their 2020/21 campaign being the only one they fell under that total, and it's likely to see them reach that target once again, even with defeat in Bilbao, to give Amorim the best chance of success next season.
