Paul Merson lashes out at 'arrogant' and 'entitled' Man United plan, fans will completely disagree

Paul Merson did not hold back on Manchester United ahead of the Europa League final.

Manchester United fans only have one week to wait until they can watch Ruben Amorim’s side in the 2025 Europa League final.

There is huge pressure on Amorim to win the final, knowing it would provide a huge financial boost and qualification to the Champions League next season.

But Amorim is already looking beyond the Europa League final and has slammed United’s “embarrassing” Premier League position this season. It has hardly been a campaign for United fans to celebrate.

Paul Merson slams Man United celebration plan

Earlier this week, it was revealed that United are planning a barbecue if they win the Europa League, rather than planning an open-top bus parade through the city.

Even if United end the season by bringing a trophy back to Old Trafford, the 2024/25 campaign will go down as a humiliating one for the Red Devils.

However, pundit Paul Merson has slammed United’s decision to not hold a bus parade if they win the Europa League, labelling it as “arrogance”.

Speaking via Sky Sports, Merson said: “They’ve won a trophy, they’re in Europe. These trophies are not coming thick and fast for Man United as they’re a million miles off, so enjoy it while you can.

“For me, it’s a bit of arrogance of ‘we are entitled to win trophies’. That was the past, we’re talking about the present.

“Enjoy it. Who’s to say they’re going to win another trophy in the next 15 years?

“Their fans follow them everywhere, all over Europe. Phenomenal fans, and all of a sudden they’re going to have a barbecue.”

Paul Merson could not be more wrong

Hated. Adored. Never ignored. United simply cannot win in this situation. Had Ineos announced plans for an open-top bus parade if Amorim lifts the Europa League, it would have been slammed for celebrating what has undoubtedly been a poor season.

Instead, United have decided to keep their celebration plans low-key and Merson has now accused the club of arrogance.

Amorim argued this is the ‘worst United in history’ and the stats back him up that it has been a hugely underwhelming campaign for the Red Devils.

Amorim plans to win the Premier League as United head coach. He will not settle for a Europa League trophy, and that’s the exact mentality that belongs at Old Trafford.

If United listened to Merson and dropped their standards, the journey back to the top would be longer and even more difficult.
