Ttlb opinion: Why should Tottenham be looking at 19-year-old versatile ace who nearly moved to…

With the summer transfer window around the corner, Daniel Levy has started forming a basic list of targets that the North Londoners could do with, and the club chairman is set to continue with his policy of signing highly touted young players that have the capacity to make it big, and we can see that in the Lilywhites’ pursuit of Brøndby IF’s versatile winger Clement Bischoff.

The 19-year-old Danish youth international has been gaining a lot of attention for the performances that he has been in the Danish Superliga, wherein he has contributed to a couple of goals alongside having ten assists to his name in 38 appearances this season.

However, as I said, he has been getting a lot of attention for his performances, and this comes through in the fact that Tottenham is to face competition the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for his signatures (with all three clubs likely monitoring the 19-year-old since March). And this won’t be the first time he is near to moving to the English top tier; he had a £6 million move to Brighton collapse in the January window.

Now the interest in his signatures remains high, and Brøndby may be open to negotiations for a possible sale in the upcoming transfer window.

But why is he highly regarded? Let’s speak a bit about Clement Bischoff – his versatility and tactical ability

Ange will love to have someone like Bischoff in his side

The right-footed starlet has the ability to operate in a defensive as well as offensive role from the left flank that makes him a tactical asset on the pitch, especially to deploy in-game tactical systems. He is someone who has shown decent abilities with his overlapping runs, and then you combine that with his defensive awareness, which helps him to be effective on both the offensive and defensive sides of the play (and that also comes through in the fact that you can play him as a left wing-back as well as a left winger).

And for modern managers who like to play fluid formations with each player having multiple roles to undertake in the game situation, someone like him becomes very vital given that it comes rather naturally to him.

How can Tottenham use Clement Bischoff under Ange Postecoglou?

Given his positional mobility (or versatility), he will fit seamlessly into the framework that Ange Postecoglou is trying to build at Tottenham. And for a fact we do know how the Australian head coach demands players who have the capacity to adjust tactically in-game, and Bischoff is already showing those tendencies at just 19.

If Spurs do end up landing the Danish talent and Tottenham do end up keeping Ange at the helm, Bischoff would initially be used in more of a rotational wide option role where you’d more likely expect him to operate from the left in either a high-and-wide winger role or maybe as a left wing-back (especially when Tottenham are trailing) in a back five.

Given how he likes to keep up with the touchline and combine in wide triangles complemented by his ability to come inside from the out makes a perfect touchline-to-box link role, especially when Udogie is either inverting or not playing at all.

When it comes to the defensive side of things, he has that ability to track back and defend 1v1 on the outside, which ends up giving Ange something he hasn’t always had with other more attack-minded young wingers that he has had at Tottenham before (Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil).

I would be getting very far ahead of myself here, but as he develops, there will also be room to mould him into a ball-carrying No. (maybe where he features more as a hybrid left midfielder, similar to how Ange has used Sarr in wider areas). And given his capacity to feature as both a winger and wing-back, you do see him becoming a player that helps take the ball from the second phase into the third phase.

We all know that Clement Bischoff is not going to come this summer to take anyone’s shirt immediately, but if Daniel Levy pulls this off, Tottenham will have another player who has development capabilities, and especially if he were to be available at €6–8 million, Bischoff would be a low-cost, high-reward investment for Tottenham.
