Why Ruben Amorim is a'huge fan'of Ange Postecoglou, the Europa League final countdown begins

Ruben Amorim has another chance to change his record against Ange Postecoglou when Manchester United take on Tottenham in the Europa League final next week.

From two games against Ange Postecoglou, Ruben Amorim has yet to record a win over the Tottenham boss, and the odds are against Manchester United ahead of the Europa League final.

In the first meeting, Tottenham came away 4-3 winners in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. It saw United’s run in the competition come to an end.

The second meeting ended 1-0 in Tottenham’s favour as they completed the double over United in the Premier League.

However, the odds must change and Tottenham can’t continue beating United with ease. Hopefully, Amorim’s side can put an end to that next week and beat them when it really matters, with Champions League football on the line.

The two teams will meet at the San Mames Stadium next week after enduring turbulent league campaigns. Both teams will finish in the bottom half of the table, with United currently in 16th place.

Ruben Amorim has respect for Ange Postecoglou

Although Amorim has been on the receiving end of defeats against Postecoglou since arriving in England, the United head coach has remained respectful towards his opposing manager.

That will remain the case ahead of the Europa League final because they have no reason to fall out.

Three months ago, however, Amorim admitted he is a ‘huge fan’ of Postecoglou.

Amorim told reporters: “I’m a huge fan of Ange Postecoglou. Of course, I’m from a different culture.

“I’m Portuguese, and you know all the Portuguese coaches; they can adapt. And I adapt.

“The simple thing is that I use one system at the moment, because I believe that if you work on that system, you can play in different systems at the same time. So that is my idea. But we are not winning games and I understand the connection between me and Ange. We have the same problems.

“In my opinion, with all due respect, I’m in a bigger club with a bigger pressure, so I understand the connection and I think it’s really important, the coach, to have to follow these principles.”

Amorim admires Postecoglou’s style of play

Postecoglou is an extremely attack-minded coach who will sacrifice defending to play on the front foot.

United will need to be mindful of that.

In the same press conference three months ago, Amorim outlined why he thinks Postecoglou is a very good coach.

“I feel, especially because he’s a good guy. He’s a very good coach. He wants to play football in the right way. And that is for me a good thing.

“And we know that, again, when we choose this kind of profession, there is a lot of good things. But then you have to feel that pressure when you don’t win.”
