Minnesota farmer brings new crops into rotation

A farmer in west-central Minnesota added some new crops to his rotation this year.

Nathan Collins of Murdock says he’s growing sugarbeets, kidney beans, and organics for the first time.

“Looking at forecasting out long-term. Short-term, it would be nice to have something a little more profitable. But long-term, I think it’s just a better fit for what we’re trying to accomplish overall on the farm.”

He also grows conventional corn, soybeans, and alfalfa.

“I mean, it’s more things to our plate. But I think that’s okay, we’ve got some really really good guys that work with us.”

Collins says a trucking and custom forage harvesting business helps keep his farm diversified as well.
