Jalen Brunson had 39 points and 12 assists to move the New York Knicks a win away from clinching the Eastern Conference finals. The Knicks won 121-113, pushing defending champions, the Boston Celtics, to the brink of elimination. Boston now has the daunting task of coming back from a 3-1 postseason deficit — something only 13 other teams have managed, previously.
The Celtics will have to manage it without Jayson Tatum, who was carried off the court with a lower right leg injury during Monday’s Game 4. Tatum’s leg gave out as he moved for a loose ball, and he appeared visibly pained, grabbing his leg above the ankle. It was a difficult exit after having scored 42 points during the game.
