Man Utd poised for seven-figure sum with Shakhtar ready to recruit 20yo midfielder - report

Manchester United are poised to receive a seven-figure sum from Maxi Oyedele’s move to Shakhtar Donetsk from Legia Warsaw this summer, according to Meczyki.pl.

The 20-year-old spent 12 seasons in the Red Devils’ academy before joining Legia last summer. The midfielder joined for a nominal fee alongside a significant 50 percent sell-on clause.

United are now set to benefit from the clause. Meczyki claim that Shakhtar have opened talks with Legia and are prepared to trigger the £5.06 million release clause in Oyedele’s contract.

The Red Devils will receive £2.53m if Oyedele gives the green light to join the Ukrainian giants.

Man Utd set for unexpected financial boost

Oyedele barely made an impression in the academy ranks. He was loaned out to National League side Altrincham in 2022/23 before spending the next campaign with Forest Rovers in League Two.

The midfielder, who qualifies for Poland through his mother, moved to Legia last summer. The transfer has proved worthwhile. He has already earned a couple of caps with the Polish national side.

At 20, the United graduate will want to make the next step in his career. Shakhtar would be a good choice considering the number of players who have gone on to play for bigger European teams.

Willian, Fred and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are among those who built their reputation at the Ukrainian outfit. Oyedele could move to one of Europe’s top-five leagues if he were to impress at Shakhtar.

His transfer will add £2.53m to the coffers at United. The club could secure higher fees through sell-on clauses if Alvaro Carreras (Benfica) and Mason Greenwood (Marseille) were to secure big-money transfers.
