Reliable journo gives latest on £68m PL star amid Tottenham links

Tottenham are in the race to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bolster their attacking line in the summer. The Lilywhites have endured a disastrous domestic campaign. They need to bring in quality players once the season ends to close the gap in their rivals. With the North London club languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, fans are also demanding massive changes in the summer.

Daniel Levy has come under tremendous pressure to invest heavily into the squad. However, it is important to note that Spurs will have to adopt the ‘sell to buy’ policy as the Lilywhites have incurred huge losses due to poor performances in domestic competitions. So, Levy will need to be ruthless and cash in on underperforming players quickly.

The attacking line has struggled to get going as well. Club captain Heung-Min Son has lost his rhythm and it looks increasingly likely that the prolific winger is way past his best now. January signing Mathys Tel has also struggled to make an impact under Ange Postecoglou this season. James Maddison has also faced a lot of pressure this season. The England international is the only creative midfielder in the ranks.

Tottenham monitoring Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Tottenham need to bring in quality players in the summer. It was reported earlier that Spurs are linked with a move to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. The England international has made some huge strides under Oliver Glasner and he is one of the standout players for the Eagles this season. The Palace No.10 has a £68m release clause in his contract that is likely to get activated in the summer.

However, Tottenham are not the only ones willing to sign the 26-year-old. The Lilywhites face competition from a lot of top clubs for Eze’s signature in the summer. Now, BBC journalist Sami Mokbel has issued an update regarding the England international’s future. Writing in his BBC newsletter, Mokbel has said,

“Tottenham like Eberechi Eze, who has a £60m plus £8m release trigger, but the Crystal Palace man is likely to have other options.”

Eberechi Eze passed his Spurs audition with flying colours last weekend. The Lilywhites faced Palace at home, and Eze was one of the best players on the pitch for Oliver Glasner’s side. The 26-year-old also got on the scoresheet and ensured a win for the Eagles. As per Sofascore, Eze has played 40 games in all competitions this season. He has managed to score 12 goals and provide 12 assists in that time.

Signing Eberechi Eze would be a good move by Tottenham. The Palace No.10 would reduce the creative burden that James Maddison is carrying. Eze is also versatile and he could be utilised on either flanks, or a number ten. The 26-year-old has great ball-striking ability and tends to create chances for his teammates.

The Englishman also tends to ease past defenders and operates brilliantly in the half-space. He can play as a second striker as well and he is brilliant at initiating press in the final third. However, bringing Eze to N17 would mean that Heung-Min Son would lose his place in the starting eleven.
