The June 30 accounting deadline was a key moment in last summer's transfer window

Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey and Newcastle United’s Harvey Barnes have been linked in a possible swap deal this summer.
Last summer, clubs scrambled to raise funds before the June 30 accounting deadline to stave off possible double-digit points deductions.
Villa sold Douglas Luiz for £42m after the previous sales of Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman, who raised around £30m combined.
Everton sold Lewis Dobbin for a fee similar to that of Iroegbunam’s, while Ian Maatsen joined Villa for £37.5m before Kellyman joined Chelsea for £19m.
Newcastle and Nottingham Forest were also rushing to bring in money from player sales, with homegrown profits the key to raising sizable amounts.
That’s because their sales are regarded as ‘pure profit’ as they weren’t signed for a fee when they became first-team players.
Alternatively, clubs look to sell players who have a low book value, which means they have been under contract for the duration, or most of the length, of their contract.
Ahead of the summer window, there have already been rumours that Villa and Newcastle could partner up to raise funds this summer.
Ramsey has been a long-term target for the Magpies, but BirminghamLive understands former Leicester City man Barnes is not a player who Villa are currently considering.
That doesn’t mean Newcastle will not test Villa’s resolve for Ramsey, who is a homegrown talent.
Villa could have solved their PSR problems by selling Ramsey to Tottenham, but Emery did not want to let go of the midfielder.
Earlier this month, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe spoke about trading before the June 30 deadline.
"The PSR deadline plays a huge role for clubs – both those clubs with PSR issues and those without, because those without may potentially look to try to sign players," Howe said. "They will look to take advantage of other clubs, as clubs did to us last year, quite rightly.
“It’s a really interesting dynamic, and one that we’re really aware of and that we’ll try to use to our advantage if we can."
Claims from Tyneside suggest Ramsey is unhappy with his lack of match action at Villa under Emery and could be lured away this summer.
