West Ham have been linked with a move for Lille striker Jonathan David over the last few months.

West Ham have very little left to play for aside from their own pride, meaning that much of their focus will already be on the decisions to be made in the coming months.

Recruitment at the London Stadium is going to be crucial to their hopes of progressing, though a decision will need to be made on the future of Graham Potter first before any plans are put into place.

With that said, it is evident that the signing of a new striker will be high up on their list of priorities, and they will be well aware of the situation regarding David at Lille.

David confirms Lille exit ahead of summer transfer window

With a permanent deal for Evan Ferguson looking increasingly unlikely, West Ham will have just Niclas Fullkrug to lead the line next season before any signings are made, showcasing the need for a new striker.

David would be an excellent addition amid links to West Ham, and via a post on his personal X account, he has confirmed that he will be leaving Lille on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract.

David has had a remarkable season in France.

With 26 goals in all competitions and nine in the Champions League, David will have suitors from all over Europe, and if the Hammers are to capture his signature, they will need to move fast.

His addition would be an excellent one, and would surely put an end to the attacking concerns that have lingered over the London Stadium for several seasons.

Potter needs to be backed with quality this summer

If Potter is to remain in charge, it is imperative that he is backed with players capable of injecting more quality and life into this West Ham side after their struggles this season.

David, given his age and profile, would be a remarkable piece of business, though they will need several additions of that calibre to turn things around at the London Stadium.

This summer is going to be huge for the Irons, and they will be afforded no margin for error when it comes to recruitment.
