Newcastle are one win away from a place in next season’s Champions League and if we manage to make it, we’ll need to add additional quality to the side in several areas of the pitch

In order to avoid potential squad fatigue or fixture congestion issues, it would be no surprise to see sensible squad signings and loan moves pursued to head into 2025/26 in the best shape possible.

But according to a new report, we could witness a very left field arrival on Tyneside this summer, and one who hasn’t endeared himself to Toon fans in the past…

According to [The Athletic’s](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6350158/2025/05/14/man-city-morgan-gibbs-white-excitement/) Manchester City correspondent, Jack Grealish is expected to leave the Etihad this summer – and Newcastle may be a potential destination.

With ongoing fitness problems and a lack of consistent first team minutes under Guardiola, Sam Lee reports that a loan move could be on the cards after four years at the club, stating that Newcastle are one of the clubs interested.

‘He could leave this summer, most likely on loan, with Newcastle United among those interested’, reported Lee.

Grealish has still shown moments of quality in the Champions League and domestic cups, contributing to goals in all three competitions, but it’s the lack of league minutes that may be what’s facilitating the former Aston Villa ace’s departure.

The 29-year-old winger has only started one league game since the turn of the year, scoring in a 2-0 win over Leicester City last month.

On the surface, Grealish doesn’t really tick many boxes for Newcastle: almost 30-years-old, on substantial wages, and could be competing with two of our best attackers in Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes for a spot on the left wing.

However, the prospect of a loan move could make sense, particularly if the rumours of Barnes being sold to the likes of Aston Villa do come to fruition.

Should that be true, selling Barnes and bringing Grealish in on a loan deal may free up additional funds for the club to spend big on a right winger, centre-back, striker and a goalkeeper?

Grealish’s European experience could also be valuable: being able to single-handedly change the complexion of a game, he’s still an immensely talented wide man who would soon be adored on Tyneside if Eddie Howe got a chance to work with him.
