Chelsea no longer chasing Man United winger

Chelsea welcome fierce rivals Manchester United to Stanford Bridge on Friday night for their final home match of the Premier League season.

The Blues have endured a mixed campaign under Enzo Maresca, having briefly sat second in the table before dropping to their current position of fifth.

Maresca’s side can still guarantee qualification for next season’s Champions League if they win their final two matches of the season, but both United and Nottingham Forest will undoubtedly provide stern tests.

In the meantime, it has emerged that Chelsea are no longer interested in a United player who they had previously tried to sign.

According to CaughtOffside, the West London outfit have cooled their interest in United’s Alejandro Garnacho and are instead focussing on a move to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.

The Blues had made attempts to sign Garnacho – who has scored six goals in 35 league games this term – during the recent January transfer window, but the report claims that the club are no longer actively pursuing the Argentinian.

Chelsea are instead focussing their efforts on a deal to sign Dortmund winger Gittens, who is enjoying a breakthrough season in Germany.

Having joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 202o, the 20-year-old has scored 12 goals in 47 games for his current side so far this season.

The Englishman is under contract with Dortmund until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea can lure him back to London, with the player having previously spent time at their Cobham academy.

Garnacho, meanwhile, is said to still have admirers in Europe, with clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Barcelona, Napoli, Juventus and Atletico Madrid interested in the winger.
