Leeds United initiate contact with 28-y/o PL defender over summer transfer - Journalist

Leeds United are claimed to be one of several clubs in the Premier League that have been in touch with Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters over a free transfer.

Leeds have multiple positions in need of strengthening this summer, but one of the slots that looks locked down by a current starter is right-back.

Jayden Bogle’s sensational form for Leeds has seen him prove to be an astute signing capable of stepping up to the Premier League, but cover and competition may be required.

Leeds United ‘make contact’ with Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters

The free agent market has multiple full-backs available this summer when their current deals expire, with links emerging this week to West Ham’s experienced defender Vladimir Coufal.

Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters is another, set to leave St Mary’s for nothing upon their relegation at the end of this season, a player who has given Leeds a torrid time across three fixtures in 23/24 – locking up Crysencio Summerville three times.

With the 28-year-old available for free, Graeme Bailey reports via LeedsUnited.News that the Whites are one of multiple that have asked the question to the right-back.

“I am told no decision just yet,” Bailey said.

“Leeds have had contact, but as we know they’re one of many clubs to be in touch with him. West Ham, Spurs, Everton… there’s loads. And some foreign clubs are lurking too.

“Can Leeds get him? Of course. But from what I can make out it’s going to be tough.”

Walker-Peters would be a risky signing for a newly-promoted Leeds side, even for free

Going into the Premier League, it’s obvious Leeds are going to be doing a lot more defending than they have this season.

So, Leeds’ full-back options need to be able to cope with that, and having a pairing of Walker-Peters and Bogle is putting much more emphasis on having the ball.

Bogle looks worthy of playing in the Premier League, but Walker-Peters is coming out of a season with the second-worst side in the division’s history.
