Decision time... Villa loan player Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford could be a £100m player once more. That’s the view of Manchester United title-winner under Sir Alex Ferguson, Gary Pallister, as he discussed a potential summer transfer for the 27-year-old.

Rashford’s value soared when he was in peak form for the Red Devils a few seasons ago, but it has dipped significantly amid his struggles at Old Trafford that ultimately led to him being frozen out by current United boss Ruben Amorim and loaned to Aston Villa in February.

Rashford’s form has improved at Villa Park and he has registered 10 goal contributions for Unai Emery’s side, helping them reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the semi-finals of the FA Cup and to challenge towards the top of the Premier League.

He also earned an England return, being named in Thomas Tuchel’s first Three Lions squad.

Villa have a £40m option to sign Rashford permanently this summer, while he has also been linked with Barcelona.

Assessing Rashford’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window, Pallister told Football Espana: “Barcelona is a great football club, they are a top team for any player.

“They have had financial problems, so they may find it difficult to sign Rashford in the summer.

“But it will also depend on whether Aston Villa decide to buy him permanently.

“He was a £100m player a few years ago, so his valuation has dropped a lot.

“But there is a player in there, and if he can return to that form, he can go back to being worth that amount.”
